What we do
Most Saltmeadow projects start with a plan and finish with the lights on. Take the whole sequence, or just the part your yard needs.
-
Design
A measured plan drawing of your yard, with planting lists, before any work is priced.
-
Patios, walks and walls
Paver terraces, stepping paths, seat walls and fire circles, laid on a proper base.
-
Planting
Salt-tolerant natives, meadow grasses and shade trees chosen for sandy coastal soil.
-
Lawns
Sod, seeding and seasonal care for Bermuda and fescue lawns that take the heat.
-
Outdoor lighting
Low-voltage path, step and tree lighting, set on timers so the yard works after dark.
Before and after, drawn to plan
Every Saltmeadow project begins as a plan drawing like these. Drag the handle to compare the yard we found with the yard we left.
Linkhorn Bay back yard. A cracked slab and a washed-out shoreline became a paver terrace, a lawn that drains, and native beds that hold the bank. Shade trees were placed to frame the water, not block it.
Croatan courtyard. A gravel square between the house and the garage, rebuilt as a walled paver room with a fire circle, raised herb beds and two multi-stem trees for shade.
Great Neck front yard. The straight concrete walk came out. A curved paver path now crosses layered beds and a new lawn, with a street tree that will cover the sidewalk in ten summers.
Sandbridge lighting. A boardwalk to the dune, lit low so the stars stay out: path lights on the walk, two uplit trees and grasses that catch the glow.
Sample projects for this design concept. On a real site these would be the owner's own photographs and plans.
How a project goes
Five stages, in order. The owner is on site for the first and the last, and you have a drawn plan in hand before anything is priced or dug.
We walk the yard with you, measure it, note the sun, the drainage and the salt, and listen to how you want to use the space. Bring your wish list and your worries.
A scaled plan of the whole yard, with the hard surfaces, every bed and a planting list by name. You get a copy to keep, and we change it until it is right.
Grading, drainage, base and pavers first. The crew that lays the terrace is the crew that drew it on the plan, and the site is tidied every evening.
Trees go in first, then shrubs, grasses and ground cover from the list. Everything is mulched, watered in and staked where the wind asks for it.
Low-voltage lighting on a timer, a walk-through at dusk, and a written first-season care sheet. We come back to check the plants after the first summer.
